New Council Tax rates for empty furnished properties

The Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council now has new Council Tax rates for empty furnished properties. Landlords/owners of empty furnished properties prior to April 2012 had 50% discount on Council Tax. As of April 2012, there is only a 10% discount. You now have to pay 90% of the Council Tax bill.

New Council Tax rates for empty furnished properties

An unoccupied property in need of repairs in order to make it habitable could be exempt from Council Tax for up to 12 months. After 12 months, the full council tax amount for the property becomes payable.

An unoccupied and unfurnished property is exempt from Council Tax for 6 months. After 6 months, the full council tax amount for the property becomes payable.
